The right to freedom of speech

I know we have the right to freedom of speech but I also feel we have a responsibility over what we say. If it’s too much below the belt, then I think we should exercise control, criticism is good for as long as it’s grounded. It saddens me to see how we (yes, I’m including myself) abuse our freedom of speech.

Why can we just be happy for other people’s happiness? Why do we have to go our way to make them feel like trash? I am just so sick of it, so, I am reforming myself in little ways for I know I am also one of those people I somehow despise right now. But, I will never abuse people with below-the-belt comments.

Weird-looking dishes which will take away your hunger in a bad way

As I am on the weird mode this past few days, I have decided to post some of the weirdest-looking dishes available. I don’t know if they taste good as compared to how they look, but aesthetic is a factor in eating, right? Even if you’re hungry-to-death, you might still doubt to put these dishes in your mouth.

1. Bull genitalia

And to think it is actually on the grocery store all packed and sealed.

2. Balut
This is a common snack in the Philippines and is dipped in salt. The thing inside it is actually a dead chick.

3. Crunchy chrysalises

Again, I can’t believe they actually pack these and sell it as a canned food. I can only imagine the horror of seeing what’s inside once you open the can.

4. Monkey brain

Why do they have to serve it in a bloody way?

5. Zombie bread

Ok, I’ve heard of bread in different shapes and the shapes make them more appealing, but a bread shaped out of a head? It feels like eating a dead person.

I guess the exotic eaters would take the risk of eating these and I have nothing against exotic dishes but then, my taste buds let me eyes feast first so these weird-looking foods will make choose to just starve rather than eat them, And this is just me.

Loving the job you hate

How can you love the job you were just forced to do because of the bills. I don’t know how, but I eventually did. My job now was just a necessity and I took it at the last minute because I was going to be kicked out of the apartment in two weeks. I don’t really want to borrow much money as I have this big fear of borrowing money which I know I’ll pay on installment.

How did I managed to love this job I have now, the people. My work colleagues made it bearable and made things good. I saw the light and realized there is actually growth here and I can eventually shift to other jobs with the skills I am learning in this job. So there, the people around you makes the difference.

5 weird-looking fruits you’ll think twice before eating

From childhood, we were taught (forcefully?) by our parents to eat whatever is served on the table, and that included fruits. They can’t be half as bad as vegetable,right? No pun intended to the vegans reading. I, for one love veggies and fruits as well. But, let’s face it, when we were kids, we were so picky there had been unceremonious crying sessions at the dining table.

But I bet that with these crazy-shaped fruits either naturally harvested or scientifically-bred, will get us all psyched up to eat them or put them in a glass casing up for display.

1. Kiwano

Also known as horned melon, it’s origins can be traced from African soil. It’s spiked skin makes it a candidate for one of the crazy-shaped fruits. More so, if you cut it open, the somewhat slimy, green appearance can make one hesitant to draw a spoonful of this fruit. Kind of reminds me of the green slime that thrown up by the girl from The Exorcist.

2. Lipstick tree red fruit

This fruit comes from the a tree in the Amazon. Aside from it’s purpose of being eaten and used as food ingredient, this fruit has been used for dyeing and for preventing diseases such as dysentery, treat skin diseases and hepatitis. Obviously, it’s spiked appearance overshadows it’s amazing uses.

3. Peter Pepper

I don’t have to say the obvious here, right? This may also appear as one of the offensive-looking fruits for the conservatives.

4. Square-shaped melons

These square-shaped watermelons can mostly found in Japan. For me, they also look like candles waiting to be lit up. At least, these will be easier to cut and distribute to those around the table.

5. Somewhat a tomato and a yellow pepper

Really don’t know what these and can only judge them by their color. I guess, these shapes do come once in a harvesting season. Maybe I’ll just cut the extra lump in the tomato but I won’t eat the yellow one.

One can have a good laugh looking at it and you’ll take time to wonder what they really are. They maybe disgusting-looking but they are fruits, ready to be eaten and devoured.

Ending my fear

Now, I am ending my fear of my mom. I love her but I also fear her. As this week has most been about her, I understand I have to let it go so I don’t have to think about it. I think I am obsessing about her being angry about that past driving misdemeanor. Maybe she has softened a bit. No matter the difference in her behavior, I have to get over my obsessive fear of her.

Plans for the fourth of July

As most would be celebrating and would take advantage of the festivities on July 4, I have to go home to mom. Great, what a perfect to spend Independence day. It would be good if she’ll cook, but no, I bet she’s going to nag all day long.

Trusting is not an option

After my closest friend spilled our little secret, I’ve given it a thought and I concluded, what the heck? What if mom knows it now? I have changed my old ways. Everyone makes mistakes and I am an adult now. It’s just that my mom is really a father and a mother to me, literally. Sometimes, ok, most of the time, she was more of a fatherly figure to me, maybe because she thought I need a father presence. But I’ll still go home this weekend and I know she’ll understand.

Now at work, I think someone’s also trying to play games. I heard whisperings of me being demoted and I don’t know now who to trust my thoughts. I now FULLY realize we have no one to trust but ourselves.

Keeping secrets

My friend who I considered one of my closest gave the biggest shock of my life by telling my mother a secret driving misdemeanor we had during our college days. My mom is one of those people who is a stickler for rules ever since I can remember. Even if that was in the past, I know in my guts that she’ll never rest until she can talk to me. She just left a cold, 4-word message in my machine after I got home from work. Go home this weekend. Again, wish me luck.

Last day of the month blues

I’m excited for when my child is going to see me for the first time. Today my wife said she felt the baby kick and I tried talking to it — and it did. What can I say — there really is no comparison to this kind of feeling one gets after being witness to some of life’s greatest miracles. My wife told me she doesn’t want to find out if its a boy or a girl, she just wants to be surprised by the time she gives birth. I couldn’t agree with her more.
